about IconForge and ActivIcons
Q: In order to make my icon labels transparent, and to animate some desktop icon, ActivIcons is set to run automatically each time I reboot. Suddenly, it isn't loading and I have to do it manually. How can I get it back to running automatically?
- If you go to the Interface screen, is the Place ActivIcons on System Tray at Startup option checkmarked? If not, you must enable this option. This is the most frequent cause of this behavior.
If that does not seem to be the problem, it might also be that the Windows registry entry which controls this has become corrupted. Here are 2 ways to get this to work:
METHOD A: Editing the Registry- run Regedit.exe;
- click down to the
HKey_Local_Machine
\Software
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Run folder; - look in the right side panel for a key named ActivIcons;
- if it is missing, use Regedit's Edit/New to insert a new String Value;
- rename the value to: ActivIcons
- right-click on ActivIcons and select Modify;
- in the Value Data field enter:
C:\Program Files\ActivIcons\ActivIcon.exe (if you installed it into a different drive or folder, use that instead of "C:\Program Files\ActivIcons\"); - Click OK;
- Exit from Regedit.
METHOD B: Add to Startup Folder- in Explorer, go to your ActivIcons folder and right-click on the "ActivIcon.exe" file;
- Choose "Create Shortcut" from the pop-up menu;
- Find the Shortcut you just created, and copy it into this folder:
"C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
