about IconForge and ActivIcons
Q: Using ActivIcons, I tried to restore the default "URL History" icon under Win98. I received an error message, and now I can't find the icon in ActivIcons. How do I restore this?
- Some builds of Windows use a different file to contain this Internet Explorer related icon. The icon you need is located in the Windows\System folder, within the SHDOCVW.DLL file. Simply use the Change Selected Icon button within ActivIcons to select this file, then select icon #32 (the icons are numbered from the top/left, beginning with icon #0) which is the folder icon you need.
If you can no longer select the "URL History" icon inside ActivIcons, you can correct this problem by deleting the Registry key for ActivIcons. To do this, carefully follow these steps:- click on the Windows Start button, then click on the Run... function;
- click on the Browse button;
- locate Regedit.exe in the C:\Windows folder;
- click on Open;
- double-click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER;
- under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, double-click on Software;
- under Software, double-click on CursorArts;
- click once on the IconForge entry to highlight it;
- press the Delete key to remove the IconForge entry;
- click on the Registry menu item and choose Exit.
Once you have removed the entry in the Registry, you will be able to use ActivIcons to select the URL History icon (it will be blank) and then use the Change Selected Icon button to select the proper icon from the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCVW.DLL file. Do not use the Restore Default Windows Icon button for this particular icon.
This problem was fixed in version 1.5 and subsequent versions.
